I see it is a default setting in the forum to receive notification for new private messages. Is it also possible to receive notification when one is quoted? I do not see this setting.

Also, where are these notifications seen? On the old forum they were red badges that would count up at the top of the screen.

I don't believe it is. This forum software has a lot of so-called "plug-in" options. So far, one for such notifications hasn't been found. Though, it has been on the to-do list for a bit to do a more extensive search.
So yeah, there is a plug-in for it, but since the forum is cloud hosted, we don't have the option to install plug-ins that aren't in the "available plug-in list" offered.

While far from ideal, there is something else one can do:

I've tried the middle option, but that doesn't seem to do anything.. or at least I haven't been able to find any notification elsewhere.
Yes, that seems problematic.

On another front, do we have any ability to Like posts?

How about is there a Dislike possibility, and would that be a good thing in your mind?
A “dislike” feature has been a bit of a problem in other forums that I’ve been on. Trolls like to abuse it by spamming literally every single post of their desired target with dislike notifications.
How about a "Clown" button next to the Like button. I foresee that'll get a lot of use on this forum.

Since virtually every post will be worthy of the clown button, perhaps it would be best if we could rate each post on a scale of 1 to 5 clowns.
The "thanks" which is the closest thing to a like functionality has been activated.

.
The old forum had a limit of the number of Likes a person could do in a day. I don't recall the number. Perhaps the same limit could apply, perhaps even a lesser/stricter limit to combat negativity, could be programmed in?

I'm all for a "Clown" prompt along with "Like" and "Dislike"

It's pure redundancy to have both a Dislike button and a Clown button. If someone doesn't like a post, what's the difference? But it's probably all moot. Since we cannot get a regular Like button the odds are low on either a Dislike or a Clown button.

Well, Gary, to give a "dislike" to a post is simple and obvious–the person giving it a dislike has no like for the post. A "Clown prompt" on the other hand does not mean exclusively that a person dislikes the post, it could mean many different things that the reader feels about the post:
  • I feel this post is silly
  • I think this post is stupid
  • You're a clown for posting this
  • Your post is clown approved
  • Post is rated as clown-friendly
  • Post is rated as only for clowns

and the list goes on. So you see, there can be quite the potential for a more complex reason behind giving a post a "Clown"...

...or, just maybe...sometimes a clown is just a clown.
If there's so many things that a "Clown" button might actually mean, then that's all the more logical reason for not having one. To clearly express one's meaning there would have to be a a separate button for every emotion. If that's ridiculous, and you feel a simple "Clown" button covers them all, why not take a step forward and have only the "Dislike" button? It covers all of the current "Clown" reasons plus more, according to your explanation.

Or, we could just keep the positive Like/Thank button? That is probably the thing we should do so as not to encourage negativity. There's plenty of that all that time.
